Plain
radiography, also known as x-ray, uses small amounts of
radiation that are passed through a selected part of the body to
produce an image on film. Radiography is commonly used for evaluation
of the chest, musculoskeletal system, and when used in conjunction
with contrast agent, the gastrointestinal system.
Mammography
Bone Densitometry (DEXA)
X-ray & Fluoroscopy currently not
performed
Ultrasound
uses sonar, or sound waves, transmitted through the body rather than
radiation to rapidly and safely visualize the structure and function
of blood vessels, the male and female pelvis, abdominal systems, and
breast tissue. It is also a safe and effective means of examining
the developing fetus.
Ultrasound Exams and Patient Preps
Obstetrical / Fetal Ultrasound
Computed
tomography (CT or CAT) scan is a special kind of x-ray
examination that produces detailed cross-sectional images of
internal organs and soft tissue. CT is commonly used to evaluate
abnormalities of the brain, neck, spine, chest, abdomen, and
musculoskeletal system. It is especially helpful in the rapid
diagnosis of traumatic injuries and in guiding needle biopsies.
Very fast scanners that improve patient
comfort and decrease the scan time and radiation dose are in
use at Associated Radiologists.
CT Exams and Patient Preps
CT Dentascan
Coronary CT Angiography
Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring
CT 3D Virtual Colonoscopy
Magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) creates similar images as CT without the
use of x-rays. Instead MRI uses a magnet and radio waves, rather than
radiation, to produce detailed images of the body in cross-sectional
slices. MRI is commonly used to evaluate the brain, spinal cord,
heart, bones and joints, soft tissues, and blood vessels. It may
also be used to examine breast tissue.
